Fried RiceChinese house fried rice is a delicious, classic dish, but making it at home can be even better. We hope our Chase Knolls community members in Sherman Oaks, California, will enjoy these recipe tips.

Your House Fried Rice can Rock

When you look at a Chinese restaurant menu, there are different types of fried rice. These include pork, shrimp, chicken, veggie and plain fried rice. The “house” fried rice tends to be a mixture of standard ingredients and more. That’s a clue about the “house” concept. Start with a good fried rice foundation and then explore.

Gather These Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of enriched white rice
  • 4 cups of water

Pour the water into a saucepan and add rice. Bring to a full boil, then lower the heat. Stir, then cover and let simmer for 20 minutes or until water has been thoroughly absorbed into rice.

House fried rice is all about what you like and what you have on hand. These are some core ingredients, but feel to branch out into your own creative space.

Gather These Ingredients:

  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 stick of butter
  • ¼ cup of baby carrots (chopped)
  • 1 medium-sized yellow onion (chopped)
  • 1 head of broccoli (chopped)
  • 1 red bell pepper (chopped)
  • 6 strips of bacon (sliced into squares)
  • ¼ pound lean steak (cut into small cubes)
  • 4 garlic cloves (diced thin)
  • Salt
  • Pepper

Beat eggs in a small bowl. Cut the stick of butter in half and melt on medium heat in a large frying pan. Add the onion, broccoli, pepper and carrots. Season with salt and pepper. Stir for two minutes then add bacon, steak, eggs and garlic. Stir until meat is cooked and veggies are tender.

Add in the white rice and half-stick of butter. Stir vigorously and season with salt and pepper to suit.

This is your house fried rice, so give it a personal flair. The key is that there are three steps, the rice in a saucepan, the house mix sautéed in a frying pan and the final mixture.
